I was the seven-year-old, smooth jazz-listening, sketchbook-filling, Sade-loving, soon-to-be saxophone-playing, skateboarding, dictionary-addicted brainchild. But when you’re blessed with the burden of Blackness in this life, the labels “prodigy” and “problem child” become interchangeable. 

A decade wiser, I began to realize that “book smart” was slanderous and “street smart” was a way of life that was short-lived. The brainiac who once jumped at the opportunity to ask “Why?” fell silent. What good is intelligence if you lack the proper guidance to weaponize it in your fight to free your loved ones from poverty? This question kept me up at night even when my body begged my mind for rest.

BRYLYNT (pronounced “brilliant”) isn’t a gimmicky misspelling. BRYLYNT is NOT “just another clothing brand,” claiming to be different. BRYLYNT is a seven-letter identity for the deeply misunderstood.
